DEPART NORTH AMERICA AND ARRIVE IN ARUSHA, TANZANIA

A staff member will greet you at the airport and escort you to tonight’s comfortable lodge.

DAY 3
ACCLIMATIZATION & HIKING DAY IN ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Explore Arusha National Park on foot with an acclimatization hike where you'll have a chance to see some of Tanzania's most iconic wildlife, including lion, giraffe, zebra, and antelope.

Overnight: Rivertrees Country Inn

DAY 4
BEGIN TREK TO UMBWE CAVES CAMP (Rainforest)

After lunch at the trailhead, you'll begin your climb through the lush, fertile rainforest. You'll see black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy and hundreds of different bird species feasting on the abundant berries and wild figs.

Overnight: Umbwe Caves Camp (9,500’)
Hours trekking: 6-7

DAY 5
UMBWE CAVES TO BARRANCO CAMP (Rainforest-Heath)

Journey above the tree line where dense forests give way to tall grasses, shrubs, and hardy lichens on your way to the Great Barranco Valley.

Overnight: Barranco Camp (13,004’)
Hours trekking: 6-7

DAY 6
BARRANCO TO KARANGA CAMP (Heath-Alpine Desert)

Jump-start your day with an invigorating rock scramble up the Barranco Wall, affording panoramic views. Then cross the rolling ridges of Karanga Valley to your next camp, where the glaciers of Kibo - Kili’s tallest volcanic cone - loom in the distance.

Overnight: Karanga Camp (13,231’)
Hours trekking: 4-5

DAY 7
KARANGA TO BARAFU CAMP (Alpine Desert)

Hike a steady incline over barren, rocky landscapes, through cold air and mist-shrouded valleys. Eat a hearty dinner and prepare your gear before turning in early; in just a few hours you begin the demanding nighttime bid to the summit.

Overnight: Barafu Camp (15,331’)
Hours trekking: 5-6

DAY 8
BARAFU TO THE SUMMIT TO MWEKA MILLENNIUM CAMP (Alpine Desert-Arctic Zone-Heath)

Wake before midnight and begin a challenging ascent to the summit. On the way, stop for hot tea and sunrise views over Mawenzi, Kili’s second-highest volcanic cone. Enjoy the stunning views from Uhuru peak before the long descent to camp.

Overnight: Mweka Millennium Camp (12,500’)
Hours trekking: 6-8 to Summit/4-7 to Mweka Millennium Camp
